A Bare Metal Chassis cannot retrieve hardware information. What should I do?

Failure to retrieve hardware information from a Bare Metal Chassis is typically caused by one of two reasons. Identify the cause and follow the corresponding solution to troubleshoot.

Cause 1

The server has multiple IPMI addresses, including both a shared network configuration address and a dedicated network address.

Solution

  • Log in to the server out-of-band management page, disable the BMC shared network configuration address, keep only the dedicated network address, and then retrieve the Bare Metal Chassis hardware information again.

Cause 2

The Bare Metal Instance BIOS mode must be set to Legacy.

Solution

  • Change the Bare Metal Instance BIOS mode to Legacy, and then retrieve the hardware information again.

Solution

  • If neither of the above causes applies, check the following configuration items:

  • Verify that no DHCP service other than the Deployment Server exists on the deployment network.

  • Verify that PXE is enabled in the BIOS for the NIC on the Bare Metal Chassis that is connected to the deployment network.

Ensure that this PXE NIC is the first boot NIC, or that PXE is disabled on all NICs that have a higher boot priority than the PXE NIC.
